During his stay in the Republic of Namibia, Ambassador Giacomo Berutto was received by the Prime Minister, the Honourable Mrs. Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila: an extremely positive meeting, that gave the chance to the Ambassador to explain the Order of Malta, its history, purposes, and international commitment, in addition to the current activity of the Embassy in Windhoek. “The Prime Minister expressed great appreciation and gratitude for what we are achieving, especially for young people, highlighting the importance of Christ’s commandment ‘Love thy neighbor as thyself’, of which our work is a concrete expression – Ambassador Berutto explained –. The Honourable Prime Minister also pointed out that Namibia is a Nation with a great potential, which though must be appropriately exploited: to this end, Institutions need to ensure equality among all people, an aim strongly pursued by the Order”. On this basis, relations with the Government and local Authorities can be furtherly strengthened, as in recent years: through the contacts and the work of the Embassy, the Order has in fact assumed an unseen visibility and appreciation in Namibia, even at high political levels.
