The Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to the Republic of Namibia has donated over eighty hospital beds to the government of the African country, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Services. After having explored the Namibian Government’s interest in receiving medical equipment, the Embassy made efforts to retrieve some material: the beds were made available by the Military Corps of the Order of Malta through General marquis Tommaso Gargallo di Castel Lentini, and the Corps also managed the logistics using its own personnel, with the decisive help of Rev. Fulvio Berti, Chaplain of the First Grouping of the Military Corps, and of H.E. fra’ Giovanni Scarabelli, Ecclesiastical Counselor to the Embassy.

The Italian Relief Corps (CISOM) also played a crucial role in the shipment, providing essential support from a bureaucratic standpoint, in particular with the assistance of Dr. Luca Aragone, Vice President of ACISMOM, and the Delegation of Pisa helped to cover the costs of the entire maritime shipment.

“I would like to emphasize how this charitable operation is the result of the collaboration and commitment of various parts and expressions of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta – states Ambassador Berutto, who coordinated the whole action -: it is an effort made possible through the long-standing relationships with individuals who selflessly pursue the aims of the Order”. The beds will be delivered to the Namibian government in the following weeks, in a small ceremony in Windhoek.
