In January, H.E. Veiccoh Nghiwete, newly appointed High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to the United Kingdom and Ambassador-designate to the Order of Malta, invited Ambassador Giacomo Berutto for an informal meeting at the High Commission of the Republic of Namibia in London, as a personal gesture of respect and friendship.
During the talks, Ambassador Berutto explained the extensive charitable engagement carried out by the Order of Malta in Namibia over the past fifteen years, including healthcare, education, food assistance, and infrastructure projects. These initiatives, which have benefited communities across the Country, were warmly acknowledged by the High Commissioner, who expressed strong appreciation for the Order’s sustained commitment.
Particular attention was given to the situation in southern Namibia, especially in the Mariental region: Ambassador Nghiwete invited the Order of Malta to consider possible future interventions, opening the door to further collaboration. The discussion also involved broader diplomatic relations in Namibia, notably with Cuba, a historical partner of the Country. In this context, a prospective project aimed at establishing a nationwide network of family doctors was presented as a potential response to Namibia’s healthcare challenges.
The meeting ended with mutual expressions of esteem and a shared willingness to deepen cooperation through joint initiatives, reinforcing the strong diplomatic and humanitarian ties between the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and the Republic of Namibia.
