On 20th May, the Embassy organized the annual charitable Grand Gala to raise funds in support of the humanitarian activities and of the many structures run and mantained in the city of Rundu. The event, held at Villa Bertelli, in Forte dei Marmi, was an absolute success and provided a real contribution to the noble cause.

Among the many guest, greeted by the host Ambassador Giacomo Berutto, were H.E. Fra’ Roberto Viazzo, member of the Sovereign Council and Incaricato for the Grand Priory of Rome, H.E. Ms. Linda Scott, Ambassador of the Republic of Namibia to the Order of Malta, and Capitular Fra’ Giovanni Scarabelli.

During the evening, the Embassy staff and the members of Ketuko Italia Ets, all present, explained the important work carried out in the Country.

Today, the Embassy runs a kindergarten for more than 120 children, a first aid clinic and a soup kitchen that provides over 400 meals a day: the revenue of the gala evening, together with the contribution of Fondazione Mediolanum, will be used to buy new cookers in Rundu. In addition, during the gala Ambassador Berutto also presented the agricultural school at the Catholic Mission of Döbra, built by the Embassy with the help of Rotaract Italia for Namibian young students and inaugurated last November.

The Ambassador also announced that a new project on food and health issues will soon be defined with the Namibian Episcopal Conference. At the end of the evening, a hommage was presented to Ambassador Scott to express gratitude for her constant help and support, while Francesco Frediani, member of Ketuko Italia Ets, was granted with the Cross pro Merito Melitensi for his years of fruitful work within the association and for the sake of people in need.
